AI Image Prompts: The 4-Part Formula for Stunning Results

Stop typing 'a beautiful landscape'. Use subject + style + lighting + composition for predictably great images.

Subject — be specific

'A dog' is vague. 'A wet golden retriever shaking off water in mid-air' is a scene. Subjects with action and detail produce better images.

Include age, breed, expression, or any other concrete quality. The more constraints, the more coherent the result.

Style — name the reference

Naming a specific style anchors the model. 'In the style of a Pixar animated film' is much stronger than 'cartoonish'.

You can stack styles: 'wes anderson cinematography, pastel color palette, symmetrical composition'.

Lighting — set the mood

Lighting is what makes images feel professional. 'Golden hour', 'soft window light', 'rim lighting', 'studio softbox' all change the feel completely.

If you don't specify, you get flat, overhead lighting by default.

Composition — frame the shot

'Wide angle', 'close-up portrait', 'over-the-shoulder', 'low angle hero shot' — composition keywords behave like camera directions.

End the prompt with composition. The model weights later words slightly more heavily in many architectures.
